Pen

Unlike the coin, most of the details of the pen are described by it's shape and not it's textures. Because of the clear plastic in the body of the pen, It's surface will distort light based on subtle variations in its overall shape.

Pen Body

The plastic body of the pen was created by making a simplified polygon version of the pen. This version is used to describe the overall shape variations.

The model gets more and more details added until it is ready for "smoothing". Smoothing is when you take this rough blocky version and instruct the computer to subdivide it into smaller sections in effect melting the object into a rounded form.

Pen Nib

The pen nib, Ink tube, and end cap are created using the same principal methods used in creating the coin. A spline is created that describes it's profile and then this is revolved around its axis to create the model.
